special sauce.

One of my biggest cravings from Provo, UT is a polish hot dog with special sauce from J Dawgs. It's a travesty that the nearest J Dawgs is like 1500 miles away. I have seen a number of recipes on Pinterest for a copycat version of J Dawg's special sauce. I finally decided to try one that seemed like it would be close. It was more than close, it was dead on and deeeelicious.

Instead of just buying regular old weiners, I bought polish hot dogs. And I bought the softest looking hot dog buns I could find. Luckily, this is Chicago, and these people love their hot dogs. They had the biggest assortment of hot dog buns I've ever seen.

special sauce source: Make Myself At Home
  • Polish hot dogs
  • Soft hot dog buns
Nuke hot dogs in microwave for 1-1/2 minutes. Cut a few slits on the top of the hot dogs. Then finish cooking them in a pan on the stove until they are browned on all sides.

Special Sauce:
  • 3/4 cup Ketchup
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 tsp. cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp. soy sauce
  • 1/2 tsp. onion powder
Bring all ingredients to a boil in a small saucepan. Turn off heat and pour over hot dogs when ready to eat.

the yummmmiest.
