3.1.13

letting ourselves be happy.

I came upon this talk yesterday. Sometimes, we need the words of other wiser people to help us feel better and learn from. It was just what I needed to read, take in, and think about. Thank you President Uchtdorf.

"We do matter. We determine our happiness. You and I are ultimately in charge of our own happiness."

"Brother and sisters, no matter our circumstances, no matter our challenges or trials, there is something in each day to embrace and cherish. There is something in each day that can bring gratitude and joy if only we will see and appreciate it."

"We are commanded 'to give thanks in all things.' So isn't it better to see with our eyes and hearts even the small things we can be grateful for, rather than magnifying the negative in our own current condition?"

"Let us resolve to be happy, regardless of our circumstances."

This is music to my ears. I think we all go through trials in our lives. No matter big or small, they affect us in one way or another. But even though they don't get resolved right away, there is some happiness that we can find in every passing day. Heavenly Father has given us this wonderful world with wonderful people and blessings in our lives. It is our job to find those things, hold on to them, and be happy because of them.

President Uchtdorf also talks about resolutions. I think these are perfect for this 2013 year.

" 1. Resolve to spend more time with those we love.

   2. Resolve to strive more earnestly to become the person God wants us to become.

   3. Resolve to find happiness, regardless of our circumstances. "
